Receipt of Abraham Lincoln to Anderson, 5 February 18551
Received, Feby[February] 5. 1855 of Anderson by the hand of W. H. Lamon, twentyfive dollars, being in full of all demands, and particularly of a note for that sum, being the only note I hold or ever held against him, which note is not now at hand to be delivered up–2
A. Lincoln
1Abraham Lincoln wrote and signed this receipt.
2Anderson could not be positively identified. It is therefore unclear why he was indebted to Lincoln.
