An Act ^bill^ to amend an Act entitled “an Act to re-organize the Gen’l Land office”, approved July 4. 1836.
Be it enacted &c. That if at any time the number of Patents for lands sold or granted under the authority of the United States, shall be such that they cannot be signed in reasonable time by the Secretary appointed for that purpose under the 6th Section of the above recited act, that, in that case the President shall be ^is hereby,^ authorized to appoint an Assistant Secretary, to sign the same, but the said assistant shall be employed by the express direction of the President & only for such time as may be necessary to bring up the arrears of Patents which may be ready for signature.
