Mr. George G. Dunn, from the Committee of Claims, reported
the following bill:
A BILL
Making provision for the widows and children of officers and
soldiers of the army of the United States, who have died or
may die while in the service, or after the discharge, on account
of sickness or a wound incurred while in the service.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That whenever there shall be due from the
United States any sum of money to any officer or soldier
of the army of the United States for his services as such
at the time of his death, and he shall have died while in
such service, or within twelve months after his honorable
discharge therefrom, in consequence of wound received
or sickness incurred in such service, such sum of money
shall be paid as follows, to wit: First, to his widow; se

cond, if there be no widow, then to his child or children;
third, if there be no widow nor child or children, then to
his father if living, and, if he be dead, to his mother; fourth,
if there be neither widow, child, father, nor mother living,
then the same shall be paid to the executor or administra-
tor of such officer or soldier, to be made assets for the
benefit of his estate.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provi-
sions of this act shall extend to and embrace the cases of
all such officers and soldiers as have heretofore died as
as aforesaid, and whose pay or arrearages of pay have
not been already drawn.
