following bill:
A BILL
To amend the first section of “An act to regulate the carriage
of passengers in merchant vessels.”

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That, from and after the passage of this act,
the first section of “An act to regulate the carriage of pas-
sengers in merchant vessels,” approved February twenty-
two, eighteen hundred and forty-seven, shall be so amend-
ed, as that only fourteen clear superficial feet on the lower
deck or platform shall be require for each passenger when
vessels pass within the tropics.
