A BILL
For the relief of Lewis Benedict.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That a grant of one section of land is hereby
made to Lewis Benedict, his heirs, assigns, or legal repre-
sentatives, to be located, in quantities not less than half a
section, on any public land subject to private entry; this
grant being in lieu of the same quantity of land reserved
by treaty made on the twentieth day of October, eighteen
hundred and thirty-two, between the United States and the
Pottowatomie tribe of Indians of the Prairie and Kanka-
kee, to an Indian chief called Ab-be-te-ke-zhic, the right
to which reservation has been purchased by said Benedict:
Provided, however, That no patent shall be issued for

said land until said Benedict, his heirs, or legal representa-
tives, shall have relinquished, in manner and form, satisfac-
tory to the Secretary of the Treasury, all claim, right, or
title, to any land under or by virtue of said reservation.
