Mr. W. R. W. Cobb, on leave, introduced the following bill: which was read
twice, and referred to the Committee on Public Lands.
March 9, 1848.
Mr. Alexander Evans, from the same Committee, reported the same back
with a recommendation that it do not pass, when it was committed to
the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union.
A BILL
Tom amend an act, entitled “And act to raise for a limited time
an additional military force, and for other purposes,” ap-
proved February the eleventh, one thousand eight hundred
and forty-seven.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That so much of the aforesaid act (the title
whereof is above recited) as provides that bounties of lands
shall be located “in one body,” containing not less than
one hundred and sixty acres, be, and the same is hereby,
repealed; and, hereafter, warrants for the said bounties
may be issued for quantities containing not less than forty
acres, at the option of the holders, and in conformity to
the legal subdivisions of the public lands: Provided, also,

That, upon the return of any such warrant already issued,
by the person to whom it was issued, it may be competent
to re-issue to said person warrants, in the aggregate, for
one hundred and sixty acres, and in quantities containing
not less than forty acres.
