BE IT ENACTED
By the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in
Congress Assembled.
That if any person, in relation to any claim against the United States, either before Congress or any of the departments of the government of the United States, or before any commissioners authorized by Congress to adjust any claims, or to take testimony in relation to any claims against the United States, or in relation to any matter or thing which shall be legally the subject of inquiry by any committee of either House of Congress, shall on oath or affirmation, either when appearing as a witness before any committee or commissioner, or other person or persons duly authorized, or in any affidavit or deposition taken before any person authorized to administer oaths, either by the United States, or by any of the States, or Territories, or the District of Columbia, wilfully and corruptly give false testimony in relation to any matter or thing material to the point in question, every person so offending, and being thereof duly convicted, shall be subjected to the pains, penalties, and disabilities which, by law, are prescribed for wilful and corrupt perjury.
