Mr. Crowell, from the Committee of Claims, reported the following bill:
A BILL
Supplementary to the joint resolution “authorizing the accounting
officers of the treasury to audit and settle the accounts
of William P. Zantzinger,” approved the fifteenth of June,
eighteen hundred and forty-four.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the Fourth Auditor of the Treasury be,
and he is hereby, authorized and required to pass to the
credit of William P. Zantzinger the further sum of two
thousand two hundred and seventy-six dollars, making in the
whole the sum of eight thousand dollars; that being the
amount of stores on board of the Hornet at the time they
were thrown overboard, according to the statement of
Captain Newton, who was second lieutenant and in com-
mand of the deck of the Hornet during the whole period

of the chase, and who gave orders to throw overboard
everything whatever from below as well as off deck, to
lighten ship, to enable her to escape from the enemy.
