Mr. Grinnell, from the Committee on Commerce, reported
the following bill:
A BILL
For the relief of the owners and crews of certain vessels employed
in the cod fishery.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the collector of Plymouth be authorized
and directed to pay Joseph Holmes, of Kingston, in the
State of Massachusetts, or his legal representatives, late
owner of the schooner Industry, of Kingston, in said
State, of eighty-two and twenty-seven ninety-fifths tons
burthen. That the collector of Portsmouth, in the State of
New Hampshire, pay to Jeremiah Noble, and Moses
Noble, of Portsmouth, aforesaid, or their legal represen-
tatives, late owners of the schooner Privado, of Ports-
mouth, of fifty-five and fifty-eight ninety-fifths tons bur

then. That the collector of Marblehead, in the State of
Massachusetts, pay to William Fabens, of Marblehead,
aforesaid, or his legal representatives, late owner of the
schooner Garland, or Marblehead, of sixty and ninety
ninety-fifths tons burthen. That the collector of Barn-
stable, in the State of Massachusetts, pay to Joseph
Baker, fourth, Barnabas Baker, jr., Samuel Ryder, and
Samuel Crowell, of Dennis, in the State of Massachusetts,
late owners of the schooner Union, of Dennis, of forty-
eight tons of burthen. That the collector of Castine, in the
State of Maine, pay to Aaron G. Higgins, of Orland, in
said State, late owner of the schooner Madison, of Orland,
of twenty-six and three ninety-fifths tons burthen. And
that the collector of Stonington, in the State of Con-
necticut, pay to Elias Coon, of Stonington, aforesaid, late
owner of the schooner Congress, of Stonington, of thirty-
seven and fifty-eight ninety-fifths tons burthen; such sums
as they would have been entitled to as bounty or allow-
ance, provided by law to vessels engaged in the cod
fishery four months, said vessels having been lost at sea
or wrecked, after having nearly completed their cargoes
and the terms of time required by law, which sums shall
be distributed by the aforesaid persons according to law,
amongst the owners and crews of said vessels, or their
legal representatives.
