A BILL
Repealing so much of the first section of an act, entitled “An act supplemental to an act, entitled ‘An act providing for the prosecution of the existing war between the United States and the Republic of Mexico,’ and for other purposes,” approved June seventeenth, eighteen hundred and forty-six, as authorizes the President of the United States, when the war with Mexico shall be terminated by a definitive treaty of peace, to select from the brigadier and major generals then in service, the number to be retained, without regard to the date of their commissions.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre- sentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That so much of the first section of an act ap- proved the seventeenth of June, eighteen hundred and forty six, as authorizes the Presidents of the United States, when the war with Mexico shall be terminated by a defini- tive treaty of peace duly concluded and ratified, to select from the whole number of brigadier and major generals |

which may then be in office, without regard to the date of their commissions, the number to be retained in service, be, and the same is hereby, repealed. |
