following bill:

For the relief of Elisha H. Holmes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the patent granted to Elisha H. Holmes
on the eighteenth day of November, eighteen hundred and
thirty, for an improvement “in the machine for raising
mud, sand, or gravel, from the beds of streams, rivers and
harbors,” a description whereof is given in a schedule an-
nexed to the letters patent granted as aforesaid, be extend-
ed to the term of fourteen years from and after the eigh-
teenth day of November, eighteen hundred and forty-four;
and the Commissioner of Patents is hereby directed to
make a certificate of such extension, and to append an
authenticated copy thereof to the original letters patent,
whenever the same shall be requested by the said Holmes,
or his assigns.
