Mr. Putnam, from the Committee on Public Lands, reported
the following bill:
A BILL
To authorize the legislature of the State of Illinois to sell and
convey the balance of the lands reserved and granted to
said State for the use of the Ohio Saline.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the legislature of the State of Illinois shall
be, and is hereby, authorized and empowered to cause to
be sold and conveyed, in such manner and on such terms
and conditions as said legislature shall by law direct, all of
the lands remaining unsold which were reserved and
granted to said State for the use and support of the salt-
works, known by the name of the Ohio Saline, in the coun-
ty of Gallatin, in the said State, and to apply the proceeds

of such sale to such objects as the said legislature may, by
law, direct.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all sales of
said Ohio Saline lands heretofore made, or that hereafter
may be made before this act shall take effect, under and
by virtue of any law of said State, and without any pre-
vious act or consent of Congress to make such sales, be,
and the same are hereby, confirmed and made valid, so far
as any act of Congress might be necessary to authorize a
conveyance by said State.
