Mr. Dunn, from the Committee of Claims, reported the following bill:
A BILL
For the relief of the heirs of Nicholas Lachance and others.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he
is hereby, authorized and required, out of any money in
the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to pay to the heir
or heirs, or other proper representative, of Joseph Placy,
alias Joseph Plassy, the sum of fifteen hundred and sixty-
five dollars and fifty cents, with interest thereon, at the
rate of five per centum per annum, from the fifth day of
February, seventeen hundred and seventy-nine, to the pas-
sage of this bill; and also the sum of one hundred and
fifty-two dollars, with interest at the rate aforesaid, from

the twenty-sixth day of January, seventeen hundred and
seventy-nine, till the passage of this act.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the said
Secretary be, and he is hereby, authorized and required,
out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appro-
priated, to pay to the heir, or other proper representative,
of Nicholas Lachance, or to his assignee or endorsee, or
to the proper representative of such assignee or endorsee,
the following sums of money, (due on sundry bills of ex-
change drawn on the treasurer of the State of Virginia by
Lieutenant Colonel John Montgomery, for supplies furnish-
ed the Illinois regiment,) with interest thereon at the rate
of five per centum per annum, from the respective periods
hereinafter mentioned, till the passage of this act, to wit:
the sum of fourteen hundred and six dollars, with interest
from the twentieth day of October, seventeen hundred and
seventy-nine; also, the sum of fourteen hundred dollars,
with interest from the sixteenth day of November, seven-
teen hundred and seventy-nine; also the sum of twelve
hundred dollars, with interest from the twentieth day of
October, seventeen hundred and seventy-nine; also, the
sum of two thousand dollars, with interest from the twen-
ty-fourth day of November, seventeen hundred and seven-
ty-nine; also, the sum of twelve hundred dollars, with in-
terest from the twenty-fourth day of November, seventeen

hundred and seventy-nine; also, the sum of eight hundred
dollars, with interest from the twenty-fourth day of No-
vember, seventeen hundred and seventy-nine; also, the
sum of two thousand dollars, with interest from the twen-
ty-fourth day of November, seventeen hundred and seven-
ty-nine; and, also, the sum of one hundred and seventy
dollars, with interest from the fifteenth day of March,
seventeen hundred and eighty.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said
Secretary be, and he is hereby, authorized and required
out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropria-
ted, to pay to the assignee or endorsee, if any, of Pierre
Richard, or the proper representative of any such assignee
or endorsee, or, if there be no such assignee or endorsee,
then to the heirs or proper representative of the said Pierre
Richard, the sum of four hundred and forty dollars, with
interest thereon at the rate of five per centum per annum,
from the twenty-ninth day of January, seventeen hundred
and seventy-nine; the same being due upon a bill of ex-
change of that date, drawn by G. R. Clark on Oliver Pol-
lock, for supplies furnished the State of Virginia at Kas-
kaskias, in the year seventeen hundred and seventy-
nine.
