Mr. Tompkins, on leave, introduced a bill (H. R. No. 329) of the following
title: which was read twice, and referred to the Committee
on Invalid Pensions.
April 28, 1848.
Mr. Fulton, from the said Committee, reported back the following amendatory
bill: which was committed to the Committee of the Whole
House on the state of the Union.
A BILL
To provide pensions for all the officers and soldiers, regular
and volunteer, who have been injured and permanently disabled
in the service in the existing war with Mexico.

A BILL
To provide pensions for all the officers and soldiers, regular
and volunteer, who have been injured and permanently disabled
in the service in the existing war with Mexico.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre- sentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the officers, non-commissioned officers, musicians, or privates, including the volunteer corps, artifi- cers, and engineers, who have served, or shall hereafter serve, in the war with Mexico, and who have been, or shall hereafter be, injured or disabled (after being mustered or received into the service) by wounds or otherwise, while in the line of their duty in the public service, shall be |

placed on the roll of invalid pensions of the United States, at the same rate of pension allowed to invalid pensions under the provisions of the law in favor of the officers and soldiers in the late war with Great Britain: Provided, always, That the rate of compensation to be allowed to non-commissioned officers, musicians, and privates, shall in no case be less than four dollars per month: And pro- vided, also, That the pension hereby allowed shall not extend beyond the period when the disability of the pen- sioner shall cease to exist. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Secre- tary of War shall adopt such forms of evidence, in applica- tions under this act, as the President of the United States shall prescribe. |
