Union.
A BILL
To establish the rates of postage on steamboats and other
water craft, not in the employ of the United States.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That from and after the passage of this act, there
shall be charged the same postage on letters and other
mailable matter sent by steamboats or other water craft,
not employed by the Postmaster General, from one post
office to another post office, as is required by law to be
paid when conveyed by land in the United States mail,
between such post offices: Provided, That no postage
shall be charged on such letters, and other mailable
matter, as are authorized by law to be conveyed by such
steamboats or other water craft, free of charge.
