the following bill:
A BILL
For the relief of David Shepard.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and he
is hereby, directed to pay to David Shepard, out of any
moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, the
value of his horse, which died whilst employed in convey-
ing an express from Monterey to Victoria, in Mexico, in
January, eighteen hundred and forty-seven: Provided,
That said Shepard proves to the satisfaction of the ac-
counting officers that his horse was used in conveying said
express for government purposes.
