A BILL
To amend the act entitled “An act for the punishment of certain
crimes against the United States,” approved April
thirtieth, seventeen hundred and ninety.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre- sentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the thirty-second section of the act en- titled “An act for the punishment of certain crimes against the United States,” approved April thirtieth, seventeen hundred and ninety, be, and the same is here- by, repealed, but such repeal shall not effect any indict- ment, or prosecution for any crime or offence committed, or fine or forfeiture incurred, before the passage of this act. Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That no per- son or persons shall be prosecuted, tried, or punished for |

any treason, or other capital offence against the United States, wilful murder and forgery excepted, unless the in- dictment for the same shall be found by a grand jury within ten years next after the treason or capital offence aforesaid shall be committed; nor shall any person be prosecuted, tried, or punished for any offence not capital, nor for any fine or forfeiture under any penal statute, unless the indictment, suit, or information for the same, shall be found, presented, or instituted within six years from the time of committing the offence, or incurring the fine or forfeiture aforesaid: Provided, That nothing here- in contained shall extend to any person or persons fleeing from justice. |
