Mr. Bowlin, from the Committee on Private Land Claims,
reported the following bill:
A BILL
For the relief of the inhabitants of the village of Carondelet in
the State of Missouri.
Whereas, difficulties have arisen as to the extent of the grant of commons to the village
of Carondelet, in the State of Missouri, under and by virtue of an act, entitled an
“Act making further provision for settling the claims to land in the Territory of
Missouri,” approved June 13th, 1812: therefore,

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre- sentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the United States do hereby relinquish to the inhabitants of the village of Carondelet all the right, title and interest of the United States, in and to the com |

mons adjoining and belonging to the said village of Caron- delet, according to the survey of said commons, made officially by Joseph C. Brown, deputy surveyor, in March, eighteen hundred and thirty-four, in pursuance of instruc- tions from the Surveyor General’s Office, dated February tenth, eighteen hundred and thirty-four, to be help by the inhabitants of said village, in full property, as confirmed to them by the act of June thirteen, eighteen hundred and twelve, and relinquished by the act of January twenty- seventh, eighteen hundred and thirty-one; to be regulated or disposed of for the use of inhabitants according to the laws of Missouri; saving and excepting all that tract of land, reserved for military purposes, known as the Jeffer- son Barracks tract. |
