A BILL
For the relief of Elisha Hampton and others, of Iowa.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the receiver of the land office at Fair-
field, in the State of Iowa, be, and he is hereby, authorized
to pay, out of any money received by him for the public
lands, to Elisha Hampton, and each and every other per-
son, the sum of money by him or them paid to William
Ross, late register of the said office, deceased, which had
been paid to such register, to apply on the purchase of
land, for which a receipt was given by or for him as such
register, but which was never applied to the credit of the
person who made the payment: Provided, however, That

such person shall produce and surrender to said receiver,
the voucher or receipt given for the same, and shall other-
wise have satisfactory evidence that such payment was
made and was never applied as aforesaid; for which pur-
pose, the said receiver may examine the applicant on oath
before him, and any other person orally or by affidavit.
In case of the death of any such person, his executors or
administrators, in behalf of the estate of the deceased,
shall be entitled to the relief given by this act.
