An act to amend an act entitled an act making appropriations for the civil and diplomatic expenses of the government for the year ending the thirtieth of June one thousand eight hundred and forty nine, and for other purposes approved aug 12. 1848
(Section1) Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. that the proviso in the first Section of an act entitled “an act making appropriations for the civil and diplomatic expenses of the government for the year ending the thirtieth of June one thousand eight hundred and forty nine, and for other purposes” approved August 12. 1848, by which said proviso the clerk commissioner or other officer it is enacted that [...?] in lieu of all fees emoluments and

and receipts a[?]ed for taking and certifying the depositions of witnesses in civil causes The Clerk Com or other officer taking and certifying the same shall secure be entitled to receive no greater sum whatever than two dollars for each and every deposition so taken and certified and for all services connected therewith. and when the taking of such deposition shall require more than six hours then for every additional six hours the like rate of compensation, be extended and the same is hereby declared to extend and to apply to all and every civil cause between any parties whatever, and to all proceedings in [admiralty?] [?]y[?]t and to be [?]y[?]t in the Circuit and District courts of the United States.
(Section 2) And be it further enacted that the Clerks of the several circuit and District courts of the United States [exhibit?] to all persons desiring to inspect the same during office hours all alphabetical and other [?]I[?]s of

the Judgments and decrees recorded in said Courts without any fee or charge therefor.
Provided that the compensation for taking each ^every^ ^the actual taking of where every such ^ such disposition shall [...?]of [...?] take ^necessary^ require the taking or longer time than three hours, the Judge of the Court is authorized to certify an amount not exceeding [?] ^ten five Dollars^ in a [proper?] charge for taking such deposition of the same shall ^[therefore?]^ be [?] as a part of the costs of the [suit?] [?]
