A Bill, Granting the State of Missouri a right of way through the public lands, and a donation of public lands for the purpose of making a Rail Road from the Town of saint Joseph to the city of Hannibal in said State.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That there be and hereby is granted to the State of Missouri, for the purpose of enabling said state to construct a rail road from the town of Saint Joseph in said state, to the city of Hannibal in said state, the alternate sections ^& parts of sections^ of public land for six miles on each side of said Road; to be selected in alternate sections and parts of sections by an agent or agents, to be appointed under the authority of said state, subject to the approval of the secretary of the Treasury, and the alternate sections and parts of sections which remain to the United States by the grants in this act, shall not be sold for less than two dollars and twenty ^fifty^ fifty cents an acre, and shall not be subject to be located upon by any land warrant issued [by?]under any act of Congress.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the lands hereby granted to the state shall be subject to the disposal of the legisture thereof, under the restrictions hereinafter mentioned, for the purposes aforesaid and no other, upon such terms and conditions as will secure to the people of said state

the benefits of this act, and the said rail Road shall be and remain a public highway for the use of the government of the United States, free from toll or other charge upon the transportation of any property or troops of the United States.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted. That the lands hereby granted shall be disposed of by said state only in manner following, to wit; that a quantity not exceeding sixty sections on said Road, and included within a continuous lenght of ten miles of said Road, may be sold; and when the Governor of said State shall certify to the secretary of the Treasury that ten miles of said Road is completed, then another like quantity may be sold on that Road, and so from time to time, until said Road is completed, and is said RRoad be not becompleted within twenty years, no further sales shall be made, and the land unsold shall revert to the United States, Provided, that said state it shall not be competent for said state to dispose ^of said^f lands or ^any^ part thereof at a price lower than, for the time being, shall be the minimum price of the lands of the United states.
Sec. 4. [...?]And be it further enacted, That before it shall be competent for the State of Missouri to select any of the lands to be selected as aforesaid, a plat or plats of the courses, distances, and points of termination of said road shall be furnished by the state of Missouri to the commis-

sioner of the general land office, designating also the bottom and tops widths of said road; and that the said state shall furnish to said commissioner profiles of said road, upon the usual working scale, shewing the depths of cutting and filling at, at least, each one hundred feet of said road, and also the grades thereof
Sec. 5. And be it further enacted. That the state of Missouri be and hereby is authorized to survey and mark through the public lands of the United States, the Routes of said Rail road, and that a width equal to twice the depth of cutting or filling at each point of said road, together with forty feet added thereto, be reserved from sale on the part of the United States, on each side of the central line of said road, and the use thereof forever vested in said state for the purpose aforesaid and none other
sec. 6. ^And be it further enacted.^ That no lands reserved for schools or for military purposes, or other purposes, nor mineral lands, nor any to which the right of preemption has attached, shall be selected by said state under this act.
sec. 7. And be it further enacted that the United states mails shall be carried on said road, under the regulations of the Post office department at a price not exceeding twenty five dollars per mile, per annum.
