An Act ^Bill^ for the relief of certain settlers on the 16th section, in T 21 N, R 11 E, Onachita land district, Louisiana.
Be it enacted, by the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That the settlers on the East half of section numbered sixteen, in Township numbered twenty one ^North,^ of Range numbered eleven East, Onachita district, Louisiana, who—had not the 1st half section been reserved for school purposes—would have been entitled, to secure their improvements, by entering, according to legal subdivisions, under the existing pre emption law, the lands embracing the same, be, and they are hereby, authorized, so to enter, the tracts, on which they may be respectively settled; Provided, That the sd settlers shall first procure, & file with the Register & Receiver of the district land office, the assent, in writing, of a majority of the voters in the township in which the sd Land is situated, to the sale, of same.
Sect 2. And be it further enacted, That the Register & Receiver of the ^district^ Land office, [at?] shall, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, select and reserve, for the use of schools within sd Township, other lands in the same or adjoining township, of the same extent & quality, with those which may be entered under the authority given in the first section of this act.
