Granting ^making^ to the state of Connecticut a donation of public land to aid in the constructing1 of the New York & Boston [or?] Air Line Rail Road
Sec 1st Be it enacted by the Senate & House of Representatives in Congress assembled that there be & is hereby granted to the state of Connecticut for the purpose of aiding in the construction of the New York & Boston Rail Road a quantity of land equal to Two hundred & fifty thousand acres to be selected by an agent or agents to be appointed by the Governor of sd State out of any unappropriated land belonging to the United states subject to the approval of the Secty of the Treasury

Provided however that no land reserved for schools or for military or other purposes nor any to which the right of preemptions has attached shall be selected by sd State
Sec 2d And be it further enacted that the lands hereby granted to sd state shall be appropriated by the Legislature thereof for the purpose aforesaid without condition or restriction of any kind and the said road shall be & remain for the use of the United states free from toll or other charge for the transportation of troops & munitions of war & the great mail of the United states in the use of said road & under the direction of its officers
