For the relief of Major E. H. Fitzgerald.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Repre-
sentatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled
, That the Secretary of the Treasury be, and
he hereby is, directed to pay to Major E. H. Fitzgerald
the sum of two thousand dollars, out of any moneys in the
treasury not otherwise appropriated, it being a full indem-
nity for moneys of the United States lost by him during a
voyage from Vera Cruz to New Orleans, on board the
United States steamer Alabama, in the year
eighteen hundred and forty-eight.
