A Bill ^to^ granting lands to the volunteers and militia ^State troops^ who served in the Florida War.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled That each non-commissioners officer, musician and private, who was regularly mustered into any company of volunteers, or State troops, who was in the service of the United States in the Florida war, and received an honorable discharge, or was killed, or died of wounds received, or of sickness incurred in such service, or was discharged before the expiration of his term of service by reason of wounds received, or sickness incurred in such service, shall be entitled to receive a certificate or warrant from the War Department for the quantity of land hereinafter specified, which may be located by the warrantee or his heirs at law at any land office of the United States in one body and in conformity to the legal subdivisions of the public land, upon any of the public lands in such district, there subject to private entry; and on the return of such certificate or warrant, with evidence of the location of said [sale?] thereof being legally made, to the General Land Office, a patent

shall be issued therefrom, that is to say, where the term of service was twelve months, he shall be entitled on one hundred and sixty acres: where the term ^it^ was six months, to eighty acres, and where the term it was three months, to forty acres. If such non-commissioned officer, musician or private died during service, or after his discharge, or before the issuing of a certificate or warrant as aforesaid, the same shall be issued to and for the benefit of his family and relatives as follows: first, to his widow and children; second, to his father; third, to his mother; fourth, to his brothers and sisters. If his children be minors, their guardian, in conjunction with such, if any there be, as are of full age, being duly authorised by the orphans court having probate jurisdiction, shall have proven to assign and dispose of such certificate or warrant for the benefit of such of those interested. All agreements for the sale, mortgage or transfer of such land, made prior to the issuing of such warrant or certificate, shall be absolutely null and void; nor shall such land be in anywise charged with or subject to the debts or liabilities which were incurred by such soldier, prior to the issuing of such certificate or warrant: Provided, that no certificate or warrant, authorised by this act shall be laid on any lands of the United States which shall be subject to a preemption right, or on which shall be an actual settlement.
