BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
THATthe Secretary of War be, and he is hereby directed to detail from the corps of topographical engineers a competent officer to proceed forthwith to the State of Louisiana, there to survey the mouth of Red river when in its flooded state, as well as at a time of low water, with a view to ascertain the most practicable mode of rendering the mouth of said river navigable for steamboats at all seasons of the year.–
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the sum of three thousand dollars is hereby appropriated, out of any moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to defray the expenses of said survey.
