1 Whereas, the United States brig of war
2 Somers was foundered at sea, in the 0f=
3 fing of the harbor of Vera Cruz, while
4 engaged under very hazardous circum=
5 stances, in the prosecution of hostilities
6 against an enemy of this republic:
7 Therefore,
8 Be it enacted by the Senate
9 and House of Representatives of the United
10 States of American in Congress assembled,
11 That the widows, if any such there be, and
12 in case there be no widow, the child or chil=
13 dren; and, if there be no child, then the parent
or parents ^and if^ of the officers, seamen and marines,
who were in the service of the United
States, and lost in the United States brig-=
of-war Somers, shall be entitled to, and re=
ceive, out of any money in the Treasury
not otherwise appropriated, a sum equal
to twelve months pay, of their respective
deceased relations aforesaid, in addition to
the pay due to the said deceased, at the
date of the loss of said vessel.
