Chap. CXII. — An Act to confirm the Location and to grant a Quarter Section of Public Lands for
the County Site of Hillsborough County, State of Florida.
Confirmation of location and grant of a quarter section of land to Hillsborough county,
Florida, for county site.
Proceeds of sales — how to be applied.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America
in Congress assembled, That the location of the county commissioners of the county of Hillsborough, in the
State of Florida, of one hundred and sixty acres of land for the county site of said
county, at Tampa, viz.: beginning on the east bank of Hillsborough River, at the point
where the reduced military reservation, as made by Major L. Whiting, September fourteenth,
eighteen hundred and forty-six, strikes the same; thence up said river, binding thereon,
to a point at least half a mile in a straight line from the beginning; thence north-easterly
to a point from whence a line running parallel to said straight line, and striking
the line of said reduced reservation; and thence along the lines of said reservation
to the place of beginning — shall include between said river and said lines one hundred
and sixty acres of land; and the same is hereby granted to the said commissioners
of the said county, and their successors in office, for the use of said county, the proceeds of sales to be applied to the building of a court-house and jail, and
other public buildings for said county; and the Commissioner of the General Land Office
shall cause said one hundred and sixty acres of land, granted as aforesaid, to be
surveyed, and the survey confirmed, as soon as practicable; and a patent shall issue
therefor to said commissioners, for the use of said county, as aforesaid, referring
to this act.
