BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
THAT that if in the opinion of the President of the United States it is advis-able, the offices of the Keeper of the Public Archives at the cities of Pensacola and St. Augustine in the State of Florida may be continued, said officers to be appointed as heretofore but that after the thirtieth day of June eighteen hundred and forty eight no salary shall be paid to said officers respectively, but said officers respectively may be allowed such reasonable office rent as may necess-arily be paid for places wherein to keep said archives not to exceed at each of said cities one hundred dollars per annum which shall be paid quarterly at the the Treasury of the United States and that said officers may respectively charge the following fees of office to be paid by the party to whom service is rendered, viz: for each and every search for each year requested by such party and for each document or record specified five cents; for every copy of a paper document or record furnished fifteen cents per hundred words; for every translation in a fair hand writing of such paper or document or record twenty five cents per hundred

words; and for the certificate with seal to such copy and translation one dollar; and the like fee for any other certificate with seal. and for each certified copy of a Plan map or draft not less than one dollar or exceeding three dollars according to the labor thereon, all of which certified copies of papers documents or records shall be competent evidence in any court of law or equity as heretofore.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, that the President be authorised whenever the State of Florida shall provide by law for the safe keeping of said archives by a proper office to transfer the same to the authorities of said State.
