1 | BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representa- |
2 | tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, |
3 | THATthe proper accounting officers of the |
4 | Treasury be, and they are hereby, authorized |
5 | to settle and adjust the account of the late |
6 | William A. Slacum, deceased, and to pay to |
7 | his personal representative, in addition |
8 | to what Mr Slacum received in his life- |
9 | time, his ^[actual^ charges for ^]^ expenses incurred |
10 | in visiting the Columbia river, in pursuance |
11 | of the directions of the Secretary of State, |
12 | in the years eighteen hundred and |
13 | thirty six and eighteen hundred and |
14 | thirty seven: Provided, The amount allowed |
15 | in such expenses shall not exceed the |
16 | sum of seven hundred and twelve dollars |
17 | and ninety cents; ^[^and also to pay his |
said representative, as compensation | |
for the services rendered to the United | |
States by Mr Slacum on that mission, at | |
the rate of six dollars per diem, com- | |
mencing from the first day of June, | |
eighteen hundred and thirty-sex, | |
and continuing to the fifteenth day | |
of March, eighteen hundred and | |
thirty seven: Provided, however, That the | |
amount of pay received by Mr Slacum | |
as a purser on the navy of the United | |
States, during the period of time embraced |
