BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America
in Congress assembled,
THATthere be issued, under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, a register
to each of the Spanish Steam vessels Tridente and Cetro for the purpose of enabling
them to be employed in a line of Ocean Steamships to run between the ports of New
York, Havana, New Orleans and Vera Cruz, touching at Key West or any other intermediate
port in the United States, if found desirable, on the same footing as vessels of the
United States; Provided, That the said steam vessels shall be officered & manned by
and be under the entire control of, citizens of the United States, and that the profits
arising from the employment of said vessels shall belong to them, and provided also,
That the privileges conferred by this act Shall be able to supply the place of the
above named Spanish Steam vessels by Steam vessels built in the United States, and
that said privileges shall, in no event, continue beyond the period of two years from
the passage of this act.
