Chap. CLXXXII. — An Act for the Relief of Ward and Smith.
The Secretary of the Navy to ascertain what sum is justly due Ward and Smith for advances
made for the use of the navy in California, and certify the amount to the Secretary
of the Treasury, who shall pay the same.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America
in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Navy be, and he is hereby, authorized and required to ascertain

what sum should be justly and equitably allowed the firm of Ward and Smith, for advances
made by them for the use of the Navy Department in California, in the month of February,
eighteen hundred and forty-seven, and to certify the amount to the Secretary of the
Treasury, who shall pay the same out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
