BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America
in Congress assembled,
THATthe act entitled “An act to incorporate the Washington Alexandria and Georgetown Steam
Packet Company,” approved the third March, eighteen hundred and twenty nine, be and
the same hereby is extended and continued in full force and effect for a further period
of twenty years, commencing with the first day of January eighteen hundred and forty
nine: Provided nevertheless that Congress may at any time hereafter modify or repeal
the same.

Resolved That the Bill from Senate (No. 366) entitled “An Actin addition to the Act entitled “An act to incorporate the Washington, Alexandria
& Georgetown Steam Packet Company. do pass with the following
Amendment
Add at the end of the Bill the following Section – viz.
Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That no suit or action defending in any court whatsoever,
in which the Said corporation is Plaintiff or Defendant, Shall abate or be discontinued
by reason of the expiration of the original charter of the said Corporation, but the
same shall continue and be prosecuted in all respects as if the said charter had not
expired; and the President and Directors who were in office at the time it expired,
shall continue in office under and by virtue of this act until others shall be duly
chosen in their places.
