BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
THATthe Secretary of the Treasury be, and he is hereby, authorized to pay to Bryan Callaghan, the sum which may be found justly and equitably due to him, as the reasonable value of merchandise belonging to him, and destroyed by order of officers of the army of the United States, in eighteen hundred and forty six, on the Rio Grande, to prevent the said merchandise from falling into the hands of the enemy, or which were used by the forces of the United States, not exceeding the sum of sixteen thousand one hundred and ninety four dollars and fifty cents; the same to be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated.
