Resolved By the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in
CONGRESS ASSEMBLED,
That the accounting officers of the Treasury are hereby authorized and directed, in settling the accounts of Lieutenant J. Melville Gilliss, of the navy, for the time during which he had charge of the depot of charts at Washington, and also in settling the accounts of those officers of the navy who were employed as additional assistants of Lieutenant Gilliss, for making astronomical and scientific observations in connexion with the objects of the late surveying and exploring expedition, to allow him and each of them, respectively, such extra pay as was allowed by the act of one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, chapter one hundred, to the officers attached to that expedition.
