Mr. Burt, from the Committee on Military Affairs, reported the following joint resolution:
A JOINT RESOLUTION
To defray the expenses of transporting to the United States and interring the remains of deceased officers and soldiers of the army, in certain cases.

11 Resolved by the Senate and House of Represen-
tatives of the United States of America in Congress
assembled, That the Secretary of War be, and he is
hereby, authorized and required to cause to be paid,
out of any unexpended appropriations, for the pros-
ecution of the existing war with the republic of Mexico,
the freight upon the remains of deceased officers and
soldiers of the army of the United States, which have
been, or hereafter shall be, transported from Mexico to
the United States; and also the expenses of decently,
but unexpensively, interring such remains after their arri

unable or fail to defray the expenses of such transporta-
tion and internment.
