Resolved By the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in CONGRESS ASSEMBLED,
That in lieu of the number of copies of Documents, Reports of Committees, Journals
&c. printed by either of both houses of Congress and directed to be deposited in the
library of Congress for foreign exchange or otherwise, there be deposited in such
library for the purposes of exchange or donation under the direction of the Joint
Committee on the Library of Congress, twenty five copies only of such documents, reports,
Journals &c: that in lieu of the ten copies of such Documents, Reports, Journals &c.
now directed to be deposited in the Library of Congress there shall be one copy only
bound in calf deposited in said Library, and not withdrawn therefrom; that fifteen
copies of Little and Browns edition of the Laws of the United States in eight volumes;
two copies of the laws of the United States in ten volumes; two copies of the Acts
of Congress at their various sessions; two copies of the land laws of the United
States; two copies of the Census of the United States for eighteen hundred and forty,
and compendium of the Census for eighteen hundred and forty; and statistics of the
United States for eighteen hundred and

forty; two copies of the Secret Journals of Congress in four volumes; two copies of
Wait and Son’s American State papers in twelve volumes; and two copies of Pitkin’s
and Seybert’s Statistical Tables be retained in the Library of Congress for use therein,
and not allowed to be taken therefrom (except such copies of Little and Brown’s edition
of the Laws as may be necessary for the use of the Judges of the Supreme Court of
the United States, during the Sessions of that Court) and the remainder of each of
the above named works now in said library be appropriated between the two houses of
Congress and deposited in their respective libraries, for the use of their members
respectively; and that all laws inconsistent herewith, are hereby repealed, and the
printing such copies of the documents, reports, Journals &c. as are hereby no longer
to be deposited in the Library of Congress shall cease after the termination of the
present session of Congress.
