A JOINT RESOLUTION
In favor of David Shaw and Solomon T. Corser.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representa-
tives of the United States of America in Congress assem-
bled
, That the Postmaster General be, and hereby is, au-
thorized and required to examine ^(^and audit the claims of
David Shaw and Solomon T. Corser, contractors for car-
rying the mail on route number four, from Portland to Au-
gusta, in Maine, and allow them a just and equitable com-
pensation for the additional service performed, and the ad-
ditional stock or carriers required and actually employed
by them in fulfilling their contract, in consequence of any
change or alteration of the time stipulated in the contract,
and the proposals upon which it was made for the arrival
and departure of the mail from the said places; and to al-
low and pay to them, out of the revenues of the Post Of-
fice Department, whatever sum shall be found, after such

examination and auditing, equitably due to them for such
losses, damages, and extra expenses: Provided, That a
sum not exceeding three thousand dollars shall be allowed
and paid to said contractors under the authority of this
resolution.^)^

The Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads to whom was committed Senate Joint Resolution No 1, in favor of David Shaw and Solomon T Corser report the same back to the House with one amendment as follows
Strike out all after the word “Examine” in the 5th line and insertthe claim of David Shaw and Solomon T Corser contractors for carrying the mail on Route No 4 from Portland to Augusta in Maine and ascertain whether any sum of money is justly and equitably due them for any more expensive service performed by them on said route than was required or contemplated by their contract and if it shall be found that any thing sum of money is due them as aforesaid then that he ascertain the amount thereof and pay the same out of the revenues of the Post Office Department Provided that in no event shall a greater sum than three thousand dollars shall be allowed and paid on the claim aforesaid
