An act to provide for the enclosing and guarding Saltpeter Caves
Sect.[Section] 1st Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That all persons working Saltpeter Caves, in this State, for the purpose of manufacturing Saltpeter, shall previous to commencing the manufacture
of Saltpeter, enclose said Cave with a good and lawful fence, and keep the same at
all times in good repair, so as to prevent Cattle and other stock from gaining access
thereto.
Sect. 2d All persons working Saltpeter Caves in this State, and not first complying with the first section of this act, may be fined in any
sum not exceeding fifty dollars, to be recovered before any Justice of the Peace of
the County in which the offence may be committed, upon complaint made by any person, in the name of the County Commissioner’s
Court of said County; one half to the person sueing therefor, the other to the County Commissioner’s Court of the proper County, and
shall also be liable for all damage which individuals may sustain by reason of their
stock gaining access to Saltpeter Caves, or Manufactories, This act to be in force
from and after the first Day of June next
