Resolved by the General assembly of the State of Illinois That in their opinion the establishment of a national bank properly restricted and guarded in its opperations is necessary to establish a Sound and uniform Currency in the United States, and also to aford the necessary Facilities to the General Government in transporting its funds.2
Resolved That the Governor be requested to forward a coppy of the foregoing Resolution to each of the president of the united States, and to each of ^our^ Senators and representatives in Congress.

1Newton Cloud introduced this resolution in the House of Representatives on January 13, 1835. The House referred the resolution to the Committee of the Whole and made it the order of the day for January 19. The Committee of the Whole reported back the resolution on January 22 with sundry amendments. The House voted 30 to 23 to reject a motion to table the resolution until July 4, Abraham Lincoln voting in the negative. The House adopted the resolution as amended 30 to 23, Lincoln voting in the affirmative. On January 23, the House re-considered its vote of the previous day. Representatives rejected a motion to re-consider adoption of the Committee of the Whole’s amendments, and voted 31 to 24 against tabling the resolution, Lincoln voting in the negative. The House voted 31 to 24 to reaffirm its adoption of the resolution, Lincoln voting in the affirmative. On January 26, the Senate voted 14 to 12 to indefinitely postpone further consideration.
