AN ACT to simplify proceedings in the action of Ejectment.

Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly,2 That in all cases where any person has heretofore entered upon and occupied, or shall hereafter enter upon and occupy, any lands, tenements, or hereditaments within this state, by virtue of any lease or permit, from the United States or this state, such person, his, her or their heirs or assigns, may have and maintain an action of ejectment against any person who has or may enter upon such lands, tenements, or heredita-

ments, without the consent of such lessee, his, her, or their heirs or assigns; and proof of the right of possession shall be sufficient to authorise a recovery: Provided, That such action shall be commenced within the time now limited by law.3

1James M. Strode introduced SB 11 in the Senate on December 14, 1835. On December 16, the Senate referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on December 17 with an amendment, and the Senate table the bill and proposed amendment. On December 22, the Senate took up the bill and amended it by striking out everything after the enacting clause and inserting a substituted. On January 2, 1836, the Senate passed the bill as substituted. The House of Representatives passed the bill on January 9, 1836. On January 13, the Council of Revision approved the bill, and the act became law.
