Section 1 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, that Peletiah Brewster, a minor under twenty one years of age, be and he is hereby authorised to sell and convey such real estate, as now belongs to him in this State, and that he may also purchase such other tract or tracts of lands in this State, as he may think proper; and all Sales and purchases which he may make and execute according to the provisions of this Act shall be as binding and obligatory on him as though he was of full lawful age2

1On December 31, 1835, James M. Strode in the Senate presented the petition of Peletiah Brewster, which the Senate referred to a select committee. In response to this petition, Strode from the select committee introduced SB 73 in the Senate on January 2, 1836. The Senate passed the bill on January 12. On January 15, the House of Representatives rejected passage of the bill.

2Under the provisions of a law enacted in 1827, only guardians of minors under age could sell real estate on behalf of their wards. Section eleven of the law specified the procedure and guidelines for selling real estate.
