Sec[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly; That all deeds, mortgages, transfers, conveyances, and all common assurances of
any kind whatsoever; which have been, or may hereafter be, executed, and acknowledged
or proven according and in conformity with the laws of the State or Territory in which
the same was, or may be made for lands, tenements[,] or hereditaments situated in this State, shall be admited to record in this State, and shall operate from the date of the recording thereof, as though the same had
been executed and acknowledged or proven according to the laws of this State.
Sec 2. That any of the instruments of writing described in the foregoing section relating
to lands[,] tenements[,] or hereditaments situated in this state, which have been executed and acknowledged or proven, in conformity with the laws
of the state or Territory where the same was executed, and have been admited to record in this state shall be deemed and taken as having been rightfully recorded, and shall operate from
the date of the recording thereof as though the same had been admited to record according to the laws of this State.

1Responding to a resolution from the Senate instructing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate the expediency of legalizing
the recording of deeds executed outside the state, William Thomas of the Committee on the Judiciary introduced SB 25 in the Senate on December 30,
1836. The Senate passed the bill on January 5. On January 26, the House of Representatives referred the bill to the Committee on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary
reported back the bill on February 8, recommending its rejection. The House decided
against reading the bill a third time.
