Sec.[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois represented in the General assembly; That from and after the first Monday in August one thousand eight hundred and thirty
eight the Governor of the state of Illinois shall reside at the seat of Government, and from and after that time he shall receive
a salary of Two thousand dollars per annum, payable at such periods as is now allowed by Law

back the bill on July 20 with an amendment. The Senate approved the amendment and
