The Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads to whom was refered the Memorial of John McRae
Report
That the ^petitioner^ claims for sending while Post Master at Fayetteville an express to Charleston S C
in connexion with the apprehension of a mail robber and for this service he seems
to have been paid the sum of $30. The other claim is for the sum of $4001, [...?]in two cases, for the apprehension of said mail robbers for which there seems to be no law on usage of the Department to justify of
^the payment of^ The claim has been repeatedly rejected by the predecessors of the present Post Master
Genl who himself declines to act on the case as it is not his habit to review their
decisions. This claim originated in 1828 now twenty years since and the Committee
believe if it were well founded that certainly there would have been filed with the
papers some evidence of the justice of the claim, but there is no proof whatever filed with it submitted to sustain it [...?]
^and^ [even?] upon the statement made by the petitioner the committee is opposed to making any
allowance to the petitioner for the [services?] set forth. They therefore recommend that the claim of the petitioner be rejected.
