To The Honorable the Legislature of Illinois now in session
We the undersigned inhabitants of the valley of the Illinois River; having suffered serious inconvenience from the suspension of the navigation of said stream during the past season; respectfully solicit your Honorable Body; to cause the contemplated improvement of the navigation of said river to be commenced & completed if practicable, during the coming season.

We further respectfully request, that M. M^cConnell Esq^r of Jacksonville who has personally examined the obstructions to said navigation, be reappointed a commissioner of the Board of public works, having the supervision of the above mentioned improvement.
