Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That it is hereby made the duty of the county Recorders immediately after the passage of this ^act^ to so arrange the alphabetical index of each book in their respective offices, that the titles to real estate may be easily and regularly traced from the Government to the present owner, as well as from the present owner back to the Government; and in future to continue such alphabetical index agreeably to the provisions of this act. And should any Recorder neglect or refuse to comply with the duties enjoined on him by this act, he shall be removed from office. Said recorders shall be entitled to such compensation as may be allowed by the county commissioners of the county.2
