An Act for the relief of Ezekel Lane, Matthe[w] K Martin[,] and David Martin.

Be it enacted by the People of the state of Illino[is] represented in General assembly;
Sec[Section] 1. That the County Commissioners Court of Macon County be, and they are hereby authorized to appoint, at least three disinterested persons Freeholders of said County, remotely situated from the Land herein required to be valued, who after being duly sworn before some Justice of the Peace of said County, faithfully and honestly to do, and perform the duties required of them by this act, shall, after having ^examined^ the same, proceed to value without regard to Improvement, The North East Quarter of section No Nine in Township Nineteen North Range Three East of the third principal Meridian, being the same whereon Ezekel Lane now resides; the north east Quarter of section No Ten. Township nineteen North Range Three East of the third principal meridian, being the same whereas Matthew K Martin now resides; and the North West Quarter of section No Eleven in Township No Nineteen North Range Three East of the Third principal Meridian being the same whereon David Martin now resides, which valuation shall be signed by said Commissioners and forwarded to the auditor of the state to be filed and kept in his office.
Sec 2. After said valuation so made and reported, it shall be competent for the said Ezekel Lane, [...?] Matthew K Martin[,] and David Martin at any time before the First day of June next, to pay into the Treasury of the state the full amount of the valuation of each of the said tracts of land aforesaid, provided that said valuation be not less than One Dollar and twenty five cents per acre; and provided also that all expences of valuation of said Tracts shall be paid by the said Ezekel Lane, Matthew K Martin, and David Martin.

Com Education
1On February 4, 1839, Jesse W. Gouge in the House of Representatives presented the petition of certain citizens of Macon County, requesting relief. The House referred the petition to a select committee. In response to this petition, Gouge of the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 387 in the House on February 21. The House referred the bill to the Committee on Education. The Committee on Education reported back the bill on February 26 with amendments, in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended on February 28. On March 1, the Senate indefinitely postponed consideration.
