AN ACT to amend an act, entitled “An act to prevent trespasses by cutting timber,
approved twenty-seventh of February, 1819.”
1Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the act to which this is an amendment shall be deemed and held as conferring
jurisdiction upon justices of the peace, to hear and determine causes arising under
said act, in the manner therein provided, when the amount claimed does not exceed
one hundred dollars.
Approved, January 12, 1839.
1William Thomas introduced SB 19 in the Senate on December 15, 1838. The Senate passed the bill on December 22. The House of Representatives concurred on January 4, 1839. On January 12, the Council of Revision approved the bill and the act became law.
