Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the [Pe]ople of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly That when any tract of land shall be purchased of the General Government by any person
or persons, in body politic and corporate, upon which there is any improvement in
possession of any other person or persons the owner or owners of any such improvement[,?] shall have the right and privilege to enter upon said land, doing as little damage
as possible and take and carry away his her or their said improvements: Provided, he, she or they shall exercise his her or their right and privilege within six months
from the time he, she or they shall be [?] [or?] the entry or purchas[e] of the [Land?] upon which [?] improvements [stated?] [?]
This act to take [effect and be in] force from and after its passage

1Isaac P. Walker introduced HB 44 in the House of Representatives on December 18, 1838. On December 19, the House referred the bill to the Committee
on the Judiciary. The Committee on the Judiciary reported back the bill on December
31 with an amendment, in which the House concurred. On January 4, 1839, the House
passed the bill as amended. On February 8, the Senate refused to read the bill a third time.
